Living in Mexico

Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula is perhaps the most beautiful area in all of Mexico. The land of the Maya reaches from the North Gulf coast of the three states of Quintana Roo, Yucatan, and Campeche, to Mexico's southern border with Belize and Guatemala. Surrounded by the warm clear waters of the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico, the Peninsula has tropical white sand beaches, natural palm forests and beautiful landscapes. It is the safest place to live in Mexico and the capital city of Merida was recently ranked by the Wall Street Journal as the safest city to live in North America.

Natural Living
Living with nature and appreciating its beauty brings with it the benefits of a healthier and happier lifestyle. The fast paced industrial societies of the world carry with them their own  baggage of high stress and materialistic life cycles. This has resulted in the many health problems we hear about on a daily basis. In the Yucatan Peninsula the naturally fertile soils and pollution free air allow for year around gardening and the production of many healthy fruits and vegetables such as oranges, limes, mamay, coconuts, guayaba, papaya, and bananas.
Fresh seafood is also available year around and local fisherman are quick to offer freshly caught lobster, shrimp, fish, octopus and crab. In Mexico the sun shines almost everyday of the year.
Solar energy is a cheap and popular alternative for many seeking to get oft the grid and avoid  electrical costs. If you live with nature and respect her she will usually pay back many dividends and provide a more relaxed life style.

Life At A Slower Pace

Sometimes the news carries reports about the increasingly adverse health effects of fast foods, lack of exercise, high stress and high speed lifestyles of our neighbors to the north as well as in other large cities around the world. However, thousands of miles to the south in the Yucatan Peninsula we find a quiet tranquil lifestyle and the three states of Quintana Roo, Yucatan and Campeche are often sighted as the safest place to live in the northern hemisphere.
The relaxed slow paced family oriented tropical lifestyle of the residents in the Yucatan Peninsula provide a better stress free quality of life. Upon arriving it takes most visitors a little time  to adjust to the slower pace and the relaxed atmosphere in the land of the Maya. They always seem to be cheerful and willing to lend a helping hand or give friendly advice to the traveler. Their warmth and openness is like a breath of fresh air for many people who would like to take a step back and smell the flowers.

Medical and Dental Care
Many people are quiet surprised to learn of the quality of medical and dental care available in Mexico at only a fraction of the cost in the US and Canada. Additionally, Mexico is known throughout Latin America as a leader in the most up to date medical and dental care. The availability of fresh fruits and vegetables makes healthy alternatives to the many high calorie high cholesterol processed food diets of the fast food restaurants in other countries.
As well, Mexican health care professionals are usually glad to personally meet their patients and take the time to understand and discuss their concerns, unlike the high speed "next" interview common in many health facilities in other countries.

Eating Out

Like everyone, Mexicans enjoy fine food and dining out, but they also enjoy simple food and sharing it with their families and friends. Food is a big part of Mexican society and enjoying it together is also a big part of the Mexican social structure.

Because of the large number of foreigners working, living and visiting in Mexico, restaurants are abundant and ethnic foods from many different cultures are widely available. It is difficult to think of a country who's food is not represented - Chinese, Italian, German, Greek, French, English, Japanese, Lebanese, Arabic, US, Irish, Indian, etc. etc. A few of the more popular restaurant chains include TGI Friday's, Ruth's Chris Steak House, Burger King, KFC, Wendy's, Mc Donalds, Pizza Hut, Subway, Carlos and Charlies, Hard Rock Cafe, Chili's, Ben & Jerry's, Hagen Daz, 100% Natural, Starbucks, Olive Garden, Tony Roma's, etc. etc.
