Located on the western side of the Yucatan Peninsula, Merida is the cultural and commercial center of this region. This bustling colonial city has a rich history going back to ancient times. The Merida Cathedral is over 400 years old and was the first Cathedral built in the "New World".

The nearby Uxmal ruins are the most beautiful in the Mayan world. The coastal waters near Merida offer excellent Gulf of Mexico fishing, diving, boating, and bird watching.
