Seven years ago Mexican State and Federal officials met with Trans Caribbean Trust Company and informed us that they were laying plans for the development of the Costa Maya as an exclusive new eco-tourist destination in the south part of the state.
They told us that a new 4 lane would be extended north from Chetumal, power and telephone lines would be brought in, a major cruise ship dock and associated mall would be constructed, and a new high speed road would be built connecting Xcalak to Tamplalam.Back then TCT promptly issued a news release advising our clients to buy ocean front. Now that all this work has been completed, TCT clients who purchased real estate are already reaping the financial rewards of their investments.
Now comes the biggest and best news yet. The government has just announced that an international consortium of 3 major hotel chains has initiated plans to develop 24,000 hotel rooms on the Costa Maya over the next 12 years. In support of this explosive growth the government announced that the population of the Costa Maya is expected to soar to 120,000 people.The economic increase in tourist revenue alone resulting from this growth is expected to be $160 million USD per year. To accomplish their master plan the government has already acquired the land to extend the runway at the Capital city of Chetumal to accommodate jumbo jets, and work is already underway to complete the 4 lane highway running south from Tulum to Costa Maya. You can now see armies of heavy earth moving machines already at work on the highway.
